Hi David,
"Tanknot was extremely helpful!!!
Our water heater had been installed incorrectly by a previous contractor. We had no idea what to do. We called David and he answered all of our questions, explained what could be done, and delivered with a great deal on a new water heater. Tanknot is THE place to go for all of your Tankless water heater needs!"
Thanks again for your help. The new heater has been great!
Cheers!

Thanks, David.
I will send you a photo and testimonial in the next week or so. As you suggested he would be, Doug was great. And I will recommend you to friends.

We love our new Tankless water heater.
It saved us tons of space in our laundry room. They did great work and David was really wonderful to work with, in general. I highly recommend Tankless.

Hi Theresa,
David has installed two Tankless heaters for us (one in each unit of our duplex). We were so pleased with the first that we the second 2 weeks later. We’ve been very happy with it so far, although we’ve only had it a month. I’ve noticed a few differences (in addition to having an endless supply of hot water) - It gets hot faster (not running the water as long) and it goes from cold to hot immediately, instead of gradually. To adjust with my children, I turn it on midway hot, not all the way hot when starting out. The temperature set point is higher than our old water heater, so I am setting the faucet to mix more cold as well. For me, one of the biggest considerations was the energy savings. All in all, we’ve been really happy with it.
I found that BATWHE did a superior job. The work was cleanly done and well thought out (If you’d like to come by and look at our installation, I’d be happy to have you do that). They proactively looked after the safety of my children (who are 5 and 7) by insulating the hot water pipes - something I hadn’t fully considered. David was very knowledgeable about the technical aspects of the job. Also, the men who did it, cleaned up really well.
In both cases, we had outside units installed. The units are both Noritz, which is David’s recommendation. I’ve also heard good things about Rinnai. I think, in reality, the top 3 or 4 are very similar. I found the following site in my study of the issue that compares the major brands:
http://www.boschhotwater.com/BoschHotWatercomHome/GasProducts/NEWBoschModel1000P/CompetitiveComparisonChart/tabid/1038/Default.aspx
David’s guys came when they said they would and the communication was good. Also, David has been very responsive with any questions that I have had. In addition, his quote was accurate. I’ve been very happy with the work that they have done and would certainly recommend them.
I hope this helps.
Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

Doug was here and did a great job.
Im sure you hear that a lot.
We love the new hot water - finally feels right. No fiddling with the flow to get it hot enough.
Instead, it just works. Thanks.

Thanks David.
I assume by now that you have received the outstanding amount on the invoice?
Please let me know if you haven’t.
We appreciate the professionalism of you and your staff. We are very happy with our decision to go with you. We contacted the other two Noritz installers in the area. The first recommended using PVC for the exhaust pipe, which he said was approved (we knew better), so he was immediately off the list of contenders. And the other, while qualified and competitive on pricing, wanted us to place the unit outdoors and hire an electrician to run the necessary lines. In sum, we explored our options, chose you, and we have no regrets. Please let us know if you ever need a referral, which we would be happy to provide.

Thanks for the service. We are very pleased with the initial performance for the Noritz water heater.
Let Douglass know we appreciated the care he gave to our installation. It is nice to have the space in my utility room back after the haphazard installation of our furnace a few years ago. Douglass definitely did a better job regarding the forethought in how he would install the system and how we, the homeowners, would use the area afterwards. He was courteous and kept me informed every step of the way as the installation continued.
And thanks to you David, for following up and answering the questions I had throughout the quoting period and the follow up afterwards. My critical decision moment was when I was informed Douglass lives in Fremont. I figured that would make it easy for you to do any servicing once the unit was installed. Your price and the other quotes I genuinely considered were within $75 of each other. By adding the earthquake gas unit the price was better for your install.
Thanks again for helping me make a decision to go Tankless.

Thanks for sending the tax credit info and warranty. Patrick did an excellent job on the installation, and my Tankless water heater is working great. The hot/cold water balance is much better than with my old Tankless, so that’s a huge benefit. Attached please find a photo of the installation (I haven’t had time to repaint the wall yet, since the Noritz is smaller than the elm AquaStar unit). I placed an iron in the photo for scale.
I placed a review on Yelp. I’m not a fan of Yelp, but some people like it, and the only other Tanknot review was negative.

I just wanted to say thank you for the great job Doug did yesterday on installing my new Noritz Tankless water heater. For the first time in 5 years (since I purchased this house) I could fill at one time my bathtub with water the exact temperature I wanted. Its always taken 3 partial fills of only hot water to put enough in the tub for a bath. Doug was thorough and professional and I greatly appreciated the job he did. So much so that I have recommended your company to my neighbors and will definitely contact you again when I remodel my kitchen. Both my neighbors and I have had serious issues with the lumbers we have had do work for us before so it’s nice to finally someone who does great work.
Once again, thank you!

Hello,
The Tankless water heater was THE best thing we’ve ever done in our home. We love it. It is much safer than the traditional kind, because there is no constantly hot tank of water up there to explode or leak when the traditional water heater breaks. We like this.
We have the Takagi TK2. We never run out of water, and it is so amazing to always have it when you want it, but not pay to keep water hot all the time. It saves money, of course.
We ran out of water all the time with consecutive showers, filling a large Jacuzzi tub, doing laundry, etc. Now we have unlimited water supply.
My gas bill has gone down since we installed it.
I have neighbors who have all switched, and every one of us is incredibly happy. I wish I had done these 5 years ago.
David is a very smart, professional and capable engineer and contractor. We would use him again in a heartbeat. He stands behind what he says he will do. His kind of professional care is rare these days.
Please call me at XXX-XXXX if I can answer any other questions.

Hello, Theresa,
Yes, David Shevick did install a Tankless water system for us. I am happy to share our experience, because it was a very pleasant one.
We had an Aquastar (subsequently bought out by Bosch) Tankless system once before, and it was barely adequate in meeting our hot water needs. In addition, it kept breaking down, the repairs were expensive, and it lasted only seven years. Because of the lack of reliability and the cost of repairs, we replaced it with an electric water heater. (There is another story behind that, but you probably don’t need to or want to know that. LOL)
After another five years, with the tremendous rise in gas and electricity, we decided to re-investigate Tankless systems to see if they had improved enough to merit our consideration again. They had.
.However, the estimates we got for installing a new tank were outrageous (in the area of $4500), so we put it to rest once again, until I happened to run across David’s company on the Internet, which advertised new Tankless systems for as low as $2400.
I gave him a call, and we exchanged several e-mails, during which he gathered the information he needed to provide us with an estimate -- $2400. We accepted it and have been very pleased with the result. Our PG&E bills have gone down so much that the system will pay for itself in a little more than two years, but the savings will continue for years beyond that, and you will also be helping the environment by consuming less energy. We have not had even one problem of any type with the system, although I am sure that David would be right here on the spot to remedy the situation if we had.
Now, for your specific questions.
Do you recommend the Bay Area Tankless Water Heater Experts?
I would recommend David Shevick without any hesitation. He was low key, direct, honest, flexible, friendly, and efficient. He did a great job. He has earned my respect and my trust. I wish there were more people like him around.
Do you recommend the Tankless water heater (what brand)?
Absolutely! My wife says that it was one of the best decisions we have made in years. I did extensive research into then-current models of Tankless systems and talked to several owners of Tankless systems. Noritz and Takagi emerged as the two best for the money. Rinnai was also highly rated, but it was significantly higher in price but not necessarily significantly better in performance.
The only one I definitely would not have is the Bosch. This may or may not be a good rule, but I searched the Internet for reconditioned or refurbished Tankless systems. I figured that the less reliable units are more likely to have been returned under warranty and are back up for sale, I found gobs of Aquastar and Bosch units, but no Noritz, Takagi, or Rinnai units whatsoever. That meant something to me and helped eliminate Aquastar and Bosch from consideration.
There has been some talk about the development of Tankless systems that are computer controlled, but I don’t know how readily available they are or how good they might be, but they are supposed to be a step forward. It is one thing to be on the leading edge of technology, but I would consider that to be the bleeding edge, if you know what I mean. I would be inclined to wait for it to prove itself inexperience and develop a good track record before considering it. However, if you are interested, you can get some information on it at http://www.Tankless-water-heater.com/faq.html, David might be able to provide you with his professional views on this technology and whether or not it is really ready for the marketplace yet.
Is it safe for family with small child? My son is only three.
I consider the Tankless system to be far safer than a tank-type system. While a thank-type system sits on the floor, the Tankless system is mounted up on the wall, out of the reach of small children.
There are even models that can be mounted out-of-doors, also out of the reach of children.
What differences do you noticed between the Tank and Tankless Water Heater?
The main difference is in the size of our PG&E bill. Our electric bill went down a huge amount, but our gas bill went up only slightly. If you install a Tankless system, your savings might not be as much as ours because we were replacing an energy inefficient electric water heater and our utility bills were around $500-$600 per month at the time (around $375-$400 now, and drop below $300 in the summer time.
As far as water supply is concerned, that had been no problem before, because we had an 80-gallon tank. With our Noritz, we frequently have two water sources running at the same time and still have a great supply of hot water. If we have two showers ruining at once and someone turns on the hot water in the kitchen sink, we do notice a slight decrease in the warmth of the water, but it is not uncomfortable. I would trust Dave to recommend the proper size Tankless system to meet your needs, as he did ours. He seemed to be far more interested in doing the right job for the customer than in making extra money on overselling us. We really appreciated that.
How do you like it?
I think that you have probably already gotten the answer to that question. We love it! We feel that we made the right decision for the time and we were lucky to have located David Shevick when we did. He personally has our whole-hearted endorsement.
I would be happy to answer any further questions you may have, so please don’t hesitate to ask.
When somebody has as positive an experience as we had, we are more than willing to share that experience.
Good luck in your decision making. You have already made the right first step by being in touch with David. He will help you with the next step.

Jim Burgardt

Dear Theresa:
We are very happy with our Noritz Tankless Water Heater installed by David Shevicks Company. There are other Tankless water heaters on the market, but we wanted someone local and responsive, which is why we chose David’s company.
I am not sure I understand your question - Is it safe for family with small children?
Do you let your three year old son play around the current water heater? If so, the Tankless will be a lot safer, as it is mounted up on the wall and out of the way. The water temperature is adjustable, just like your current heater so the heat factor is up to you.
The biggest difference we noticed between old and new, were it takes a little longer to get the warm water to faucet, but that small inconvenience is more than made up for the savings in fuel cost. To illustrate our last PG&E bill before installation, which included the Christmas season was $671, the first bill after the installation was $367. The cost reduction was not all water heater related, but a significant portion was. I now figure that we will recover our cost, reduced by the tax credit for 2007, in about 18 months.
I hope this is helpful.

I would recommend David Shevick without hesitation. He delivered what he promised and his installer was very knowledgeable in how to do a somewhat complicated installation in our house.
The job site was left clean and the old water heater was hauled away. We are extremely pleased. Our tank was installed on the outside of our garage and so I cannot speak for an indoor installation that might present a hazard for a child. We chose a Noritz and will have a special pump installed because the distance from the hot water heater to our kitchen seems to be a half mile. The most complicated installation because of layout and topography David S. has ever encountered. We are very pleased and have realized quite a savings on our PG&E bills and we have never run out of hot water.
Hope this helps.

Hello, Patrick,
I am happy to respond to any questions you have regarding David Shevick and his installation of a Tankless water heater for us. I am happy to share our experience, because it was a very pleasant one.
Before responding to your questions, it might be helpful for you to know about our background and prior experience with Tankless systems.
(There’s another story behind that, but you probably don’t need to or want to know that. LOL)
After another five years, with tremendous increases in gas and electricity prices, we decided to reinvestigate Tankless systems to see if they had improved enough to merit our consideration again.
They had. .However, the estimates we got for installing a new tank were outrageous (in the area of $4500), so we put it to rest once again, until I happened to run across David’s company on the Internet, which advertised new Tankless systems for as low as $2400.
I gave him a call, and we exchanged several e-mails, during which he gathered the information he needed to provide us with an estimate -- $2400. We accepted it and have been very pleased with the result. Our PG&E bills have gone down so much that the system will pay for itself in less than two years, but the savings will continue for years beyond that, and we are also helping the environment by consuming less energy. Now, for your specific questions.
(1) Was the estimate provided to you accurate (i.e., was the actual cost close to the estimate provided)?
Yes. He gave us an estimate of $2400 and it cost us exactly $2400, not a penny more or less. Our installation may have cost less because it was a straight in-an-out replacement of our prior Tankless system, so your pricing may vary.
(2) How would you rate the quality and workmanship of the installation?
I would rate it as excellent. David set about his work in a professional manner and did a great job for us. We don’t know anything he could reasonably have done to make the quality of workmanship any better.
(3) Has the unit performed up to your expectations? (Has it provided hot water in all the places it needed to when it was needed?) Absolutely. In the morning, we frequently have two showers going at the same time with no noticeable effect. That is all we ask, and that is far better than we got from our prior Tankless system. Occasionally, we even have three hot water sources going at the same time. As long as that third source is not turned on at full blast (as the showers are), we notice little or no effect. If all three run at full blast, then we do experience a slight cooling effect, but it is not sudden or uncomfortable.
(4) Have you noticed any impact on your monthly utility bill?
That’s the biggest thing of all and the main reason we went back to a Tankless system. Our utility bills were eating us alive. Our savings will probably not be applicable to yours, because we were going from an electric 80-gallon tank-type heater to the gas-type Tankless system. With the electric heater, our PG&E bills were frequently above $500 a month during peak usage months, and occasionally approached $600. That has dropped to around $300 a month, and will probably be less during the summertime when we aren’t also using gas for home heating.
(5) Has the unit required any unscheduled maintenance?
No, It hasn’t required any maintenance of any kind.
(6) What are the top reasons you would either recommend or not recommend going ahead with this project?
Monetary Savings: Not only did we save money from lower energy consumption, but we also got a much better price from David than from several other Bay area companies.
Quality Product: Either Noritz or Takagi would be acceptable to us, but not Bosch. We trusted David’s recommendation as to make and model and he did right by us.
Quality Vendor: I would gladly recommend David Shevick without any hesitation. He was low key, direct, honest, flexible, friendly, and efficient. He did a great job. David seemed to be far more interested in doing the right job for us than in making extra money on overselling us. We really appreciated that. He has earned our respect and trust, and we wish there were more people like him in business today.
Environmental Impact; It feels good to know that, not only are we helping ourselves in the form of trouble-free, money-saving water heating, but we are also helping the environment because of lower energy consumption.
I would be willing to answer any additional questions for you, should they occur. When we had such a great experience with a particular vendor and product, we are happy to share our experience, just as we do when we have a particularly bad experience. Luckily, this was one of our great experiences.

Hi David,
Attached is the Tankless picture. Below is the testimony.
Thanks so much, we are very pleased with it!
Happy Holidays.
Testimony:
We considered purchasing a Tankless water heater primarily for the space saving factor. Our current water heater took up a whole closet in the kitchen; valuable space in our small home. All we knew is a Tankless would save us the space, but we were unsure of what to expect when entering the process. Immediately upon contact David of Tank Not was informative and professional, unlike other installers we came across. The entire process was easy, and the results are just as we were hoping. We have freed space inside our home and now have the Tankless outside. It provides plenty of hot water, and is working out wonderfully. At some point during our research we heard they are noisy. We were pleased to find out the noise is not a factor, it is pretty faint and is only audible when we are using hot water.
We would do this again in a heartbeat.

Hello John,
Our existing water heater was long overdue for replacement, so we decided this was the perfect time to go Tankless. I have colleagues in Japan and throughout Europe, where Tankless systems have been commonplace for some time. For gas, the leading brands seem to be Noritz, Takagi, and Rinnai. These have the highest consumer satisfaction ratings, and appear to be superior in manufacture.
We found David through a local Google search, he has a sponsored link and so we clicked on it.
After careful consideration of several bids, we went with David for the following reasons:
- Our interactions with David were professional and pleasant.
- He was setup with modern communications: email, website, and FAX.
- David’s team could accommodate us in the shortest amount of time.
- The price is competitive to other bids (some were lower, most were ridiculously higher)
- The brands David prefers matched our research of quality products
- When David’s guy came with the new Tankless heater, he also hauled the old one away.
Working with David and his team was a positive experience; his work was completed well and within the time promised. His installer, Douglas, also made extra efforts to check everything out, go over the safety and adjustment features of the unit, as well left us documentation how everything works. As an engineer, this has great value to me. We have a small house with 2 3/4 baths, and need hot water for the kitchen and laundry. For us, the Noritz 063S is an ideal fit. The system works very well, and we do not suffer from any of the common pitfalls observed, even though we don’t have recirculating water.
Here are some points you may wish to consider. My next door neighbor had a Bosch system installed which they are unhappy with. They will soon swap it out with a Noritz brand unit, in order to fix some problems they have. I have coworkers who have installed other no-name/consumer-grade brands, and they run into odd issues such as cold-water-sandwich, because the cheap unit can’t handle their requirements, or perhaps was not installed correctly by large warehouse hardware store folks. It wouldn’t be fair to mention names here.
However, I would definitely recommend David and the Noritz system. It performs better than I expected, takes up little space, and gives us an ample supply of hot water.
Hope that helps,
Christopher Calhoun

We were so happy with the Tankless water heater we had installed in the front unit of our duplex; we went ahead and put one in our unit too.
They are wonderful! I know our gas usage will go way down as a result and the water is endless and really hot! Also, it was nice to reclaim some of the space our old water heater took up.
I can’t recommend the person that put ours in highly enough. I several quotes and he was competitive and very responsive. Beautiful work, excellent communication, and a great price.
His website has some good information:
http://www.tanknot.com/
I told him that I would be recommending him to the Mothers Group and he said that if you give him my name, he will be sure to give you the friends and family discount. If you’d like pictures of the work they did at our house, please let me know, since I did take some.
Please DO NOT uses Water Heaters and More (I called the RWC number). I had an awful experience with them! Please believe that this is a true account, although I know it sounds unbelievable. They didn’t show up for the two hour window they had set to come give me a quote and when I called (as a courtesy) in to find out what happened, they were still 20 minutes out. I told him that I was unable to wait and that I had to go to work, and that I was going to go with another vendor that had quoted the job. He said that in that case they didn’t want my f***ing business anyway and hung up on me. I called into the office and the dispatcher told me that it served me right for being sarcastic about going with another contractor (obviously unclear on the sarcasm!) and then HE hung up on me! I want to make it clear that I was not angry or abusive with them, and I was absolutely floored by their abusive behavior. I would appreciate it if you would forward this as appropriate to warn others. They do not deserve the support of mothers if they cannot respect our time and show such appalling customer service!
THANK
YOU!
We chose a Noritz water heater. Evidently, Rinnai, Takagi and Bosch are all very good as well. Here is a nice comparison:

Hi,
I am currently trying to make a decision regarding who to choose to install a Noritz 751 Tankless water heater in my home. David gave me your name as a reference. If you have the time would you send me your comments on David’s work and his installers?
David sounds as if he cares greatly about his reputation and consequently will do a high quality job.
I hope that is so. What I hope to hear from you is comments on the following: was he prompt?
My Hollister residence is 100 miles away from David, so scheduling was more difficult than the much closer San Mateo residence, considering these distances, he was indeed prompt. Was the installation done in a professional and neat manner?
He was courteous, punctual, and obviously knew what he was doing. He was prepared for any possible technical hiccup. Indeed, there were some which he was able to resolve quickly. Douglas was first to come out and do disconnect of the old stuff and install the new stuff. Since I was also installing a roof-top solar heating element, it took more than one visit to complete this work, and some of the work required both David and Douglas. If you are only installing the Tankless and not solar augmentation, I think maybe Douglas would be doing the entire job, but I don’t know for sure. At one point during the installation, a leak sprung in a hot water pipe, but David quickly mitigated any substantial damage that could have resulted, and completely took care of everything to my complete satisfaction.
Did the worker(s) keep the work area clean and leave your home as good as or better than when they came in?
My garage area and my roof were in perfect condition upon completion of this work, in both houses.
I’m particularly concerned with after the sale service. Have you had need of a service call?
So far everything is working perfectly, so I have had no need for a service call, However, David is very good with e-mail and I had several rather technical questions regarding my Hollister residence and changing to a more efficient propane forced-air heater, as well as many more questions about the entire heating scenario of my rental house in Lincoln, Maine. There, we discussed computer programs available to calculate heat loss in a residence, window insulation, the original heating-oil based boiler in a steam heating system, and augmentation using propane and hot water heat.
Although David was clearly not going to benefit in any of these areas because he would not be employed, particularly in Maine, he took the time to write a detailed e-mail explaining everything to my complete satisfaction. By this kind of response, I know David stands behind his work and has a real interest in making his customers completely satisfied.
How long did it take for a visit and the repair? Are you happy you decided to go Tankless and use David Shevick?
My installations were far more complicated and substantial that yours, so the time it took for the installation in my case does not comport well with what it would be in your case. It took a full day (total) for the Tankless installation alone as I remember, but then again each installation is different because of each venue being unique.
Do you have any comments on the workmanship that was done in your installation?
David’s work, in both houses, was impeccable. He is a consummate professional with far more knowledge than is requisite for this kind of work. It is obviously better for the customer to have somebody with a Professional Engineers License doing and / or overseeing Tankless water heater installations rather than your typical plumber, or handyman.
Douglass would be the one to install our system if we go with David.
Douglas is pretty much deaf, and I had to write down communications with him. He was great at this, but could also read my lips rather well. Despite this disability, his workmanship did not suffer in any way. I was able to convey whatever I had to quickly - as Doug must be used to this mode of communication with those who are not proficient at sign language. Douglas and David was both professional in every aspect of their work.
If you have any other comments regarding either David’s company or the Tankless system installed, please feel free to add them.
If I were to do it all over again, I would do it exactly the same way, employing David and Douglas for my installation. The fact that I sat down and took the trouble to write all of this for your benefit is a testament to how very impressed I was with David. If I could clone him in Maine, I would have him do installation in my house there without a question. I would encourage you to look no further and go with David. You will be glad you did ... Regards, Dr. Stephen Jove.
Thank you,
Susan Meacham

Hello,
I was given your contact information by David with Tanknot Tankless, Inc. I would like to take a few minutes of your time to ask about your experience with David’s company and your experience with your Tankless water heater.
I’m hoping to make my decision as soon as possible and your information would be very helpful. My questions are...
1) How did the installation process go and were there any hiccups?
When did you install it? Was it more than a year ago or less?
Process was smooth. Installer was diligent. Installed it end of August, 2009
2) Has your hot water experience been the same since you went Tankless, better or worse?
It takes a few seconds more to get hot water, but not a problem.
3) If you could do the process over again would you a) use David’s company and b) go Tankless? And why?
I would use David’s Company. They delivered what was promised and even removed some piping (so I could build a closet where the old heater) at no additional charge). The Tankless is efficient and takes up way less room than the I’d water heater. The Federal tax rebate of $1500 and PG&E rebate of $300 is a very powerful economic incentive to do this.
4) What brand and water heater did you install? If you only remember the brand that is okay.
David recommended the brand. I do not recall, but when the Mill Valley inspector came he remarked it was excellent installation and system and that is the most important endorsement for me. Good luck on your decision.

We are very pleased with the performance of our Noritz Tankless Water heater, and it’s neat, elegant installation. It provides a steady, endless stream of hot water, eliminating the need for a secondary heater for our 90 gallon whirlpool tub.
We are especially pleased by the outside installation. The space gained by removing the large, noisy standard hot water heater with tank gives us significant extra storage space.
My husband and I lived for six years in Germany where Tankless heaters are standard.
We are so happy to finally have our own, and to reap the rewards of lower gas bills, saved space and quiet, efficient performance.
Many thanks.

David,
We like to thank you for your professional installation of our Noritz 842 Tankless system. My wife is very pleased with the results. We used our heated 100 gallon tub for the 1st time in 2 years, also along with our girls taking a shower at the same time.......endless hot water!
Along with the Noritz unit, we also had Tanknot install a recirculation pump, which gives us hot water on-demand within seconds when faucet turns on in our master bathroom.
Since the DM and recirculation pump system worked so well, we will consider installing one in the 2nd bathroom.
Again, thank you David for your service and knowledge of Tankless water heaters. I would recommend all homeowners to go green, get a Tankless water heater and have David Shevick of Tanknot to educate you and do installation.
